Post Natal Support

The journey to becoming a parent can often feel like an emotional rollercoaster. When we enter this phase in our lives, the only thing that is absolutely certain is that having a baby changes everything, and life will never be the same again. We talk about the birth of a mother and the birth of a father. Whilst being a parent is the real you, it is a part of you that never existed before. It is a new role requiring new skills and a completely new set of rules.

It is important that as a woman or a man you have the right support available to enable a smooth transition to parenthood so that you can enjoy the experience with your partner, any older children and your new baby.

At easibirthing, as psychotherapists and hypnotherapists, we can enable you to:

  • Adjust to your new lives as a mum or dad
  • Feel empowered to recognise and overcome unhelpful thoughts, and to gain a sense of control in your life.
  • Reassess your identity as an individual and as a couple, your life’s goals and what your priorities are.

In the postpartum period you are living in “baby time”. You are now on the baby’s schedule, and will need to gradually re-learn time management. You’ll need to take life one moment at a time, and set realistic expectations for what you can accomplish. Resist the temptation to get too much done until you’ve had enough time to adapt to your new life.

The human newborn is available at the earliest hours of life for connection and complex communication. However when expectation exists that a new mother will function as she did before the baby was born, offering this “social womb” may be very difficult. Faced with this expectation, many mothers feel very much alone.

We can help you to become ‘good enough’ parents, rather than striving for perfection. We can assist you to resist the temptation to criticise what you do and what what don’t do. To relax into your new role as a parent, whilst also keeping the juggling balls in the air of your individual needs, your needs as a couple as well as the needs of your new baby.

Emily's Birth Quote

When the baby came out in the pool it was one of the most amazing experiences and I was so happy I hadn't had any pain relief to mask those feelings, I really feel it has helped me bond with my gorgeous baby.
